HOT RODS & CLASSICS
Well, well, well… Looks who was invited to park front and center.
A great annual event. Always great cars and lots to see.
So, the house was completed before the car.
If it were a race, I’d win. But which came out better?
You be the judge.
Stay tuned. There are more projects coming.
My dad took the ‘32 to LA to visit my brother. He’s a pretty good videographer and produced the following video.
I’m proud of both of them. The video’s great. The car’s great.
This image is very telling. As promised, I started building my house.
We had ordered the remainder of the drive train: A fresh 302, a tranny and rear end. Most importantly, we got the stance of the car set and wheel color selected. But please notice, it’s time for me to get a move on. The rainy season is about to start and I’ve got 500CY of soil torn up…
Dad’s garage was full. In there was a 1960s & ’70s Playboy collection, a 1938 Chevy, a million baby clothes my mom was saving for some reason, cribs, some Malathion in glass bottles from my grandfather, six or seven half torn apart bicycles from my brother’s BMX racing days and who know what else.
So, the new chassis came to my house. We’ll the house I was about to rebuild.
What’s important to notice here is not so much the chassis, it’s that the story poles are up… It’s kinda like a warning. As previously stated, I told my Dad we needed to hurry cause I was about to start building my house. This picture was taken in late July, 2003.
So, the real story is that I had a wild hair one day in 2003.
Having left my high tech job and wanting to venture elsewhere professionally, I called my dad to discuss building a hot rod.
Bryan: “Dad, I’ve got a crazy idea… But please, wait till I’m finished before you say ‘No!’”
Dad: “OK.”
Bryan: “Let’s get the ‘32 on the road. You know, a driver. Let’s get it done quick before I start building my house.”
Dad: “But the ‘38 is almost finished… All I need is a wiring kit, driveshaft and…”
Bryan: “Dad, a ‘38 Chevy isn’t the same as a ‘32. Look, we can get it done quickly if we really focus on it. Let’s find a Ford motor and put a Ford in a Ford…”
On eBay that evening, the following TCI chasis was posted by a widow in So Cal…
A week later after dropping $1,600 for a flat bed at Orlandi’s, we were on the way to pick it up our new chassis.
